When Joint Symptoms Need Medical Attention

Joint symptoms deserve timely care when they are severe, follow significant injury, involve marked swelling or redness, come with fever, or cause sudden loss of function.

Urgent patterns

Seek urgent medical care for a joint that is suddenly very painful, hot, markedly swollen or accompanied by fever, or after major trauma with deformity or inability to bear weight.

Persistent patterns

Arrange routine medical assessment when pain, stiffness, weakness or swelling persists, recurs or progressively limits daily life.

Supplements are not diagnostic tools

Do not use a supplement trial to decide whether a potentially serious problem needs evaluation.
